Luján de Cuyo is a perfect wine growing zone due to its daily temperature variation: at an average altitude of 3300 feet above sea level, the area is hot and dry during the day, providing vineyards with intense solar radiation, while temperatures cool during the evenings thanks to the winds which drop down from the Andes mountain range.
This microclimate both extends the growing season and allows grapes to develop phenolic ripeness without losing their acidity.
In addition, the region’s proximity to the Andes provides pure meltwater for irrigation, with many growers now using drip irrigation systems for better control over vine growth. Its soils are alluvial and have been formed by thousands of years of river deposits.
The Cordón del Plata owes its name to a series of mountains in Mendoza that form the Andes Range. Numerous rivers are born on its slopes which deliver the pure meltwater that nourishes the vineyards of the Uco Valley, at nearly 3800 feet above sea level. One of these is Las Tunas. Over time it
has left huge quantities of colluvium due to floods, and on the surface, it’s easy to find large quantities of rounded stones with a predominance of granite. These characteristics facilitate permeability and drainage and
therefore, great control on the vigour of the vine and the quality of the grape. The region has an ideal microclimate for the slow ripening of grapes, with the perfect thermal amplitude for producing excellent concentration of aromas and flavors.
Diverse optimal soils for making high-quality wines here in the Western region of Luján de Cuyo. Soils rich in minerals, pristine water from snowmelt, pure air from the Andes, altitudes between 3000 and 3900 ft, a wide thermal temperature differential and between 10 and 15 hours of daily sunlight depending on the season and you have an idea of just some of the outstanding characteristics that contribute to producing superb quality vines.
There is a presence of deep, alluvial, low fertility soils which contain less than 0.3% of organic matter at the surface and which decreases with depth.
The wine’s components come from five different parcels categorised by the type of soils in which they stand: deep clayey soils with limestone, stony soils, loamy sandy soils and river stone soils.
An abacus is a simple device used to make manual mathematical calculations by sliding counters along rows of wires set inside a frame. Like a vineyard with rows of vines and wires that are responsible for the birth of grapes inside these bottles. Our winemakers count the vines one by one and each component that make up this unique blend.
